The nature of the flow of bulk material from a container differs from the nature of the flow of liquid due to the different patterns of pressure distribution of the bulk material and liquid along the height of the container. The pressure of the overlying layers of bulk material affects the degree of mobility of the material as it flows out of the hopper. In addition, pressure from a column of material is created above the outlet hole, which affects the durability of the shut-off valve (gate).

To reduce column pressure material, a divider is installed inside the silo cone, which serves as a support for the material lying above it. This reduces the pressure on the shut-off valves and eliminates stable arches above the silo outlet.
